Bobbie Jean (Griffith) Chapman-Mings-Justice, 89, of North Vernon, passed away at 4:59 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at her residence.

Born November 25, 1934, in Perry County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Bethel and Ines (Williams) Griffith. She married Verlin Justice on April 20, 2002, in North Vernon; he survives.

Jean was a homemaker who took great care of her kids and other children, she also cleaned homes and banks. She was a 50-year member of the Queensville Community Church where she taught Sunday school and coordinated meals and events. Jean loved spending time with her, kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, church family, and prayer group. She liked cooking, crocheting, gardening, and digging ginseng. Jean also enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, attending bluegrass festivals, and watching westerns.

Surviving with her husband Verlin; are her sons, Daryel (Stacey) Chapman of North Vernon; Wayne (Penny) Justice of Janesville, WI; daughter Donna (Jack Jr.) Monroe of North Vernon; sister, Teresa Griffith of Hazard, KY; grandchildren, Gloria (Brian) Houshour and Rex A (Aileen) Chapman, both of Columbus, Brooke (Brian) Ratliff, Marcus (Janis) Monroe and Jackson Smock, all of North Vernon, Kayleigh (Josh) Plunkett of Greensburg, Amber (Jeremy) Weppner of Janesville, WI, Heather Bornick of Beloit, WI, and Amber (Brandon) Davis of Avon; 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Lindsey Chapman; second husband, Buford Mings; son, Lindsey Dean Chapman; daughter, Diana Lynn Chapman; brothers, Billy Dean and Douglas L Griffith; sisters, Justine Cornett, Charleen Combs, Ivacine Shepherd, Josephine Campbell and Brenda Wright.

The funeral service for Jean was on Friday, July 12, 2024, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service with Brother Gerald Caudill, Rev. Don Morris, and Rev Ross Wright. The visitation for family and friends was held on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. The burial followed in the Bear Creek Tri County Cemetery in Jennings County.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home in honor of Jean to Interim HealthCare Hospice of Jeffersonville.
