WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Boy’s volleyball is just getting started with most teams in the later stages of tryouts.

Although it is not an IHSAA-sanctioned sport, the Harrison Raiders are excited about this season and the progression of the sport as a whole.

Head Coach, Kristie Hostetler, says boy’s volleyball is nothing new.

“It has been around. It’s been played at collegiate levels, and high school level around the country.”

After years of coaching girl’s volleyball, Hostetler explained the process of starting a boy’s team.

“It started with making boys aware that this is something that they can play. It is a fun and challenging game. It is a fast-paced game.” Hostetler told News 18.

With the sport being new to the state, Coach reflected on the amount of work that has been put in to make it to this point.

“We have worked really hard to put together a program that the boys will be proud of and the school is going to be proud of. The work ethic has to be there. The culture is there.”

A part of the hard-working we that Coach is referring to, also includes her son, Andrew. A senior who has already committed to Wabash College to continue his volleyball career.

“I believe that what we’ve done and what we’re going to do with future players, really sets the tone for Harrison volleyball in the future,” he stated. “I think me going to play at Wabash hopefully shows people that it’s a real thing. It’s serious and you can go places with it.”

Boys Volleyball is pegged to become an IHSAA-sanctioned sport soon. In the meantime, the Raiders are gearing up for their first home match-up against McCutcheon on March 12th.
