Indiana men’s basketball coach Mike Woodson picked up a transfer on Saturday when Washington State guard Myles Rice committed to IU, announcing his decision via social media.
Rice, the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and first-team All-Pac-12 pick, averaged 14.8 points, 3.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game this season.
Rice actually spent three seasons at Washington State, but played just one. The Georgia native used a redshirt in 2021-22, then used and a medical redshirt in 2022-23 while receiving treatment for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Rice’s addition leaves the Hoosiers with five open scholarships.
Butler basketball adds B1G transfer
Butler men’s basketball coach Thad Matta landed a Big Ten transfer on Saturday when Iowa grad transfer Patrick McCaffery announced his decision to transfer to Butler via social media on Saturday.
Patrick McCaffery is the younger son of Iowa men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery and brother of former Hawkeye guard Connor McCaffery.
A 6-9 forward, Patrick McCaffery spent five seasons in the Hawkeyes’ program, starting with a redshirt season in 2019-20. His best season came in 2021-22 when he started all 32 games and averaged 10.5 points per game.
This past season, he played in 31 of 34 games (15 starts) and averaged 8.9 points and 2.8 rebounds.
Sycamores’ Kent is Texas bound
Former Indiana State wing Jayson Kent is heading to Texas to continue his college career, he announced on Sunday via social media.
Kent, a 6-foot-8 guard/forward, will play his fifth collegiate season with the Longhorns. He started his career at Bradley where he played two seasons and transferred to Indiana State where he played two seasons.
This past season, Kent started 37 of the Sycamores’ 38 games and averaged 13.5 points and 8.1 rebounds in 30.3 minutes a game while helping Indiana State go 32-7 and finish as NIT runner-up.
