WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) â Former Purdue Quarterback and current CBS broadcaster Gary Danielson says he’s excited for Purdue’s upcoming season, especially because he gets to be a part in it.
Danielson played for the Black and Gold from 1970 to 1972 where he went on to have a 13 year NFL career and now is a play-by-play broadcaster for CBS covering college football games.
“I love to follow college football, but I always find out how Purdue’s doing. See how recruiting’s going, who’s going to be their quarterback,” said Danielson.
Four new teams are joining the Big Ten. College football playoffs added eight playoff spots and 25 new faces joined the Boilers this off season.
Danielson says the mindset for success will be different for Purdue than in years past.
“Now there’s going to be more talk. Can we make it to the tournament? We don’t have to beat Ohio State, we just have to be top 11. That’s not easy, but it’s a different type of framework,” Danielson said.
This season Danielson will have the chance to be a part of a Purdue game but not directly on the field.
On September 14th Notre Dame travels to West Lafayette and Danielson will be calling that game.
“We were 0-3 against them when I was there. I hope I don’t bring bad luck to the Boilers to tell you the truth. I’ll manage to keep myself in the middle, but deep down, it will be nice to be there and enjoy this game,” said Danielson.
Before the start of last season Ross-Ade Stadium underwent renovations adding the Tiller Tunnel, and new student section which Danielson says he’s excited to see for the first time.
“I loved the facilities when I was there, and they’re five times better now. Purdue doesn’t have to take a back seat to anybody when it comes to facilities,” Danielson said.Â
On August 31st, Purdue fans get the first look at the Boilers when they play Indiana State, then on September 14th they’ll be hosting Notre Dame.
