Bostic receives B1G Medal of Honor

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Kendall Bostic received the prestigious Big Ten Medal of Honor during the University of Illinois’ annual all-sports celebration on Monday.

Established in 1915, the Big Ten Medal of Honor is awarded annually to one male and one female student-athlete from the graduating class of each member institution who has demonstrated excellence on and off the field throughout their college career.

Bostic plays for the Illini’s women’s basketball team. A senior forward in the 2023-24 season, the former Northwestern High School star helped Illinois win the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament. She led the Big Ten in rebounding for the third straight season and made the All-Big Ten second team for the second straight season. She was the Illini’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree for the third straight season.

Bostic has 1,011 career points and 1,058 career rebounds through four seasons with one season left to play.

In the classroom, Bostic is working towards her master’s degree in special education and spends her days student-teaching in the community. She is a two-time CSC Academic All-District selection and two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. In addition, she tackles community service, volunteering and speaking engagements.

Peru’s Dunn, Potts to get scholarships

Peru’s Ian Potts and Maliyah Dunn are among 17 high school athletes who will receive scholarships this spring, the IHSAA and Forté Sports Medicine announced on Tuesday.

Potts is a senior at Peru who plays three sports. He’s one of six recipients of the Bobby and Kathy Cox Post-Secondary Scholarship, which is awarded to athletes who are the first in their families to attend a post-secondary education school while also displaying teamwork, leadership and good character.

Dunn is a senior on the Peru girls basketball team. She’s one of two recipients of the Amy Hasbrook Family Leadership Award, which goes to female multi-sport athletes who best embody sportsmanship, leadership, integrity, dedication to their team, and community service.

BSU women’s golf takes 4th in MAC

GROVE CITY, OHIO – Ball State’s women’s golf team shot 304 Tuesday to climb two spots and take fourth in the final round of the Mid-American Conference Championships at the par-72 Pinnacle G.C. Kent State won with a three-round total of plus-45 909. Ball State finished with 939.

Former Kokomo High School standout Kiah Parrott closed her college career with her best round of the tournament. The Ball State senior shot rounds of 81-80-76 to finish tied for 17th with a 237. She entered the final day tied for 31st.

“Kiah has had a great career in the Cardinal and White,” BSU coach Cameron Andry said. “Her name is all over our record books and she leaves a great legacy.”

IUK baseball falls to No. 4 Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The IUK baseball team fell 12-2 to No. 8 University of the Cumberlands in eight innings Tuesday to close the Cougars’ regular season.

IUK (30-17) hosts Shawnee State at noon Thursday and in a best-of-three River States Conference playoff series.
