David Wayne Johnson, 68, of Madison, Alabama, passed away at 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at the University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital.

A funeral service was conducted on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Larry French officiated. Burial with Military Honors was conducted at Vernon Cemetery.

Born on December 13, 1955, in Seymour, David was the loving son of Wayne E. and Ruth E. (Coffman) Johnson. He was united in marriage to Nagela Caldas on December 31, 2011. She survives.

David graduated from Jennings County High School in 1973. He then joined the United States Navy where he served ten years. He worked as an electrical engineer and traveled worldwide. He enjoyed working and tinkering on things to fix. He liked to go boating, watch a good movie, eat good food, and traveling.

In addition to his wife, Nagela Johnson of Madison, AL, survivors include sons, Michael (Avara) Johnson, and Hiago Torres; mother, Ruth Reitman; sisters, Kathryn Phillips, Linda (Louie) Cribb, Patricia (Mike) Nash, and Leanna Maschino; brothers, Michael (Sandy) Reitman, Paul (Darla) Reitman, James (Vicki) Reitman, John (Janet) Reitman, and Phillip Reitman; grandsons, Brody and Brandon Johnson.

David was preceded in death by his fathers, Wayne Johnson, and Joseph Leroy Reitman; nephew, Duane Eric Cribb.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to the Jennings County High School Wrestling Team.
