Fredia Owens, 84, of Columbus, IN, passed away at 2:37 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Willow Crossing Health and Rehabilitation Center in Columbus.

Born August 30, 1939, in Russell Springs, KY, she was the daughter of the late Milford and Lucy Belle (Robertson) Owens.

Fredia worked in housecleaning, babysitting, Calhoun’s grocery store in downtown North Vernon and Hawkeye Hill Horse Farm in Commiskey. She was a member of Jennings Church of Christ in North Vernon and attended Just Friends of Columbus, Indiana, and we would like to extend a special thank you to Just Friends. Fredia enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing-especially making pillows, working crossword puzzles, coloring, flowers, and gardening. She also loved attending church and listening to gospel and bluegrass music.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Cutsinger of Columbus; brother, Calvin (Regina) Owens of Russell Springs, KY; sisters, Lilly Fern Ritchie of North Vernon, and Molly Bolin of Columbus; grandchildren, Angela Cutsinger of Brooklyn, NY, and Joshua (Chelsea Updike) Cutsinger of Columbus; and great-grandchildren, Sierra Dawn Cutsinger of Columbus, Zane Cutsinger of Brooklyn, NY, and Lynnix Cutsinger of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Elvis, Kenneth, and Dallas Owens; and sisters, Frances Shepherd, Flossie Knight, and Flonnie Short.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Marcus Speer officiating. The visitation for family and friends was held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, from 4-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial followed in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials can be made in honor of Fredia through the funeral home for expenses.
