Kenneth Howard

Kenneth “Kenny” Howard, 74, Rensselaer, passed away at 2:24 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.

Kenny was born June 18, 1946, in McCoysburg, to the late Therman H. and Roxie L. (Robinson) Howard. Kenny attended schools in the Rensselaer and Wolcott Area and graduated from Rensselaer Central High School in the class of 1964. On July 16, 1966, (54 years ago) he married the love of his life, Margaret M. “Peggy” Howard at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Remington; she survives.

Kenny was owner of Howard Construction and retired in 2007.

Kenny was an avid outdoorsman enjoying trapping, hunting, fishing, deer watching, golfing and being ornery every chance he could. In November of this year, Kenny shot a 16 point buck, the biggest buck he had ever gotten. Kenny also enjoyed watching Purdue basketball, playing cards and following Hesson Racing #37.

Kenny was a lifetime member of the Iroquois Archery Club and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Remington. He was a member of Hazelden Country Club until it closed; then played golf the last couple years at Curtis Creek Country Club in Rensselaer.

Kenny enjoyed passing on his knowledge of hunting, fishing and golfing to his nephews and many special young friends over the years. Special mention: Ryan Byrd, Andy Thomas, Spencer Duncan, Jake Byrd, Hollis Howard, Curt Martin, Tom Martin and Dayne Bowles.

Some of Kenny’s best memories were going to Wisconsin fishing with his wife and friends, DJ Kluesner, Gene Lanie and Ira Wilson. Being a part of the Hesson Racing Team #37 and watching and rooting on the team at Shady Hill Race Track. Kenny really enjoyed the golf league with his cousin Ron Robinson and his golfing buddies that he played with for many years. He also enjoyed working at the Iroquois Archery Club with his good friend Henry Stevens.

Kenny always had a smile on his face and a joke to share with everyone and making memories with loved ones.

Surviving with his wife are siblings, Katie (Arlie) Black, Remington, and Hollis Howard, Otterbein. Also surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Larry Wirtz, Kentland and Pat and Darrell Dunlap, Rensselaer. Kenny loved spending time with his family, especially his nieces, Jean (Rodney) Crawford, Bloomington, Ill., Roxane (Jeff) Byrd, Remington, Pam and Kylie Taylor, Lafayette, Arlene Fontaine, Lafayette and Tina (Mark) Fout, Connorsville.

Preceding him in death with his parents are his brothers, Ernest, Thurman and Paul Howard and his sisters, Zelma Solley, Mary Martin, Martha Howard and Ruby Morgan.

Friends may call from 4 — 8 p.m. EST Monday, Jan. 18 at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home of Remington. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. EST Tuesday, Jan. 19 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Goodland; Rev. Joshua Bennett to officiate.

Interment to follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Remington.

Memorials may be made to Franciscan Hospice Care of Lafayette.
